The Diary Of Samuel Pepys

There are two values applied to some characters in the story “The Diary of Samuel Pepys”; these two values are thankfulness and trustworthiness. It is important to know the definition of these two values to understand why the characters about to be mentioned have or do not have these values. Thankfulness is when you show or feel appreciation towards someone or something. Being thankful is feeling grateful for the things the person has done for you; such as favors or gifts. Trustworthiness is when people see you as someone they can count on. They either rely on you or tell you some of their deepest darkest secrets and don’t expect you to tell someone else.
At the beginning of the story these two values were not that specifically shown but as there’s a part of the story in different moments where you can point out what characters have these traits. Pepys shows thankfulness at a moment of the story to his wife for preparing him dinner and he felt appreciation towards her for that despite of him cheating on her, and having affairs with other women, he was thankful at that specific moment only. Since he cheated on his wife, in my opinion, this act tells me that he is not a trustworthy person, he is not worth being trusted since he lied to his wife and went behind her back. Also when the fire happened, he didn’t help his neighbours, they had to help each other out of that chaos. The neighbours put their trust on each other while Pepys did nothing about it. This shows me he couldn’t be trusted in that moment. But as the title says, Pepys is writing everything in his diary. We can trust his words but only the things he writes on it since he is telling it to himself and putting his trust on that one book.
